Training: Emergency Paediatric First Aid SCQF Level 6. (1 SCQF credit)

This qualification is regulated by SQA Accreditation. The qualification sits on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) and on achievement participants are awarded 1 SCQF Credit.
The Care Inspectorate promote Emergency Paediatric First Aid training as best practice although it is currently not a regulatory requirement.
Participants understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider, in order to:
Assess an emergency situation safely.
Provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and breathing normally.
Provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally.
Provide first aid for an infant and a child who is choking.
Provide first aid to an infant and a child with external bleeding.
Provide first aid to an infant and a child who is suffering from shock.
Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child with bites, stings and
The qualification is assessed through practical demonstration, oral questioning and written assessment.
The learner must successfully pass both the written and practical assessments to achieve the qualification.
A Workbook is completed throughout the course.
Certification and renewal
The qualification is valid for three years. Staff require to complete the full course every three years from the date of achievement.
